I don’t even know where it came from. It could have been on my jacket or hanging out on my neck all night long waiting to start sucking my blood.

Kinja'd!!!

I did a mandatory disrobe and 100% tick check in the mirror. I am still shaken from this experience.

I swear I find them on myself more than the dogs! I’ve had lymes disease once before, it was fucking terrible!

Found two crawling around my gentleman’s region.  I’d been hiking like... 4+ hours previous and had already changed clothes.  I hate ticks.

I had one attached to my gentleman’s region when I was a young man. Not a good day for sure.

Ticks were one of the many good reasons I left off Boy Scouts at a young age.

I find them frequently on my parents’ dog when I take him on hikes. I haven’t ever found one on me, so hopefully I haven’t missed any.

Regardless, I’m fairly annoyed that they stopped making the human approved lyme vaccine, I would feel a lot better with it. Tick city here in MA.

Contracting the disease is pretty rare, but yeah, it’s a bitch. In his case the Army gave him a bs treatment that doesn’t work and told him he was gtg. Wasn’t until years later that he was diagnosed with the disease after experiencing  chronic joint pain.

Can confirm, have lyme. What is really scary is how little we understand lyme, and why i t affects everyone in a different way/symptoms.

So I was bitten close to my head (on my collarbone). Apparently the closer to your head the worse the symptoms are. I thought I was going to die. Of course I was on vacation in bumblefuck, and had to go to bumblefuck hospital where I had to make three trips . One to have the obvious bulls eye rash diagnosed as sun burn, again to see another doc who prescribed something that made me even sicker, and then once more to get the proper drugs. It went away quickly after I got the proper treatment but easily the worst week of my life.

Do you toss your clothes into the dryer on high heat after?

You can also soak your clothes in permethrin before going into the woods if you don’t have cats.

Good idea, I’m wearing clothes right out of my dresser. I think the tick might have been on my jacket or dog and then got onto me.

Ya once tick season starts I try and check my dog before we get in the car, check her again at home. Strip down toss the clothes in the dryer and shower both of us, cause I still don’t know wtf poison ivy looks like. I picked 16 ticks off of her once, did not sleep good that night.

Yeah, the Army dropped the ball and my friend wasn’t diagnosed until he’d had it for years. It was only caught because he went to a joint specialists for chronic pain  who happened to have studied lyme disease.

I still have a scab from the one that bit me two weeks ago. They’re so gross.

I got it once. Go to a walk-in clinic and get tested, it’s cheap. If you catch it early enough they can wipe it out with ordinary antibiotics.

When I got diagnosed with Lyme disease they gave me some kind of antibiotic, something similar to penicillin, which made me so, so sick. After taking those pill s for a few days as prescribed, in the middle of the day I went from “perfectly fine” to “can’t think, can’t walk, what hit me?” in about a half hour. So I called the clinic and said what’s happening? and when I told the doctor the antibiotic I was taking, which he himself had prescribed, he said, oh, nothing to worry about, the same thing happens to everybody who takes that stuff. Sure did wipe out the Lyme disease, though!
